This peak figure represented a 47.6% share of the tv audience. An average audience of 8.6m watched the match. Roger Mosey, Director, BBC Sport said: ”This has been a truly extraordinary Wimbledon. One of the greatest men's finals ever with millions on the edge of their seats. The astonishing Murray comeback against Gasquet. We're delighted that so many people have been attracted to tennis across all the BBC services." The all-time record audience for Wimbledon remains Bjorn Borg's win against John McEnroe in the 1980 Final, watched by 17.3m on BBC ONE. Andy Murray’s match against Richard Gasquet achieved the second-highest viewing figure of this year’s Championships – 10.5m (BBC ONE, 9.30pm, Monday 30 June). This year’s Ladies’ Wimbledon Final in which Venus Williams beat younger sister Serena was watched by one million more viewers than watched the Ladies Final in 2007. A peak audience of 4.9m (4.1m ave) watched Venus win her fifth Wimbledon title (BBC ONE, Saturday 5 July), compared to a 3.9m peak last year (3.3m ave). Laura Robson’s winning performance in the Girls Final was watched by a peak audience of 4.8m (4.5m ave).
