Five Australians were in the finals of the junior doubles but only one emerged victorious. Jessica Moore, in parnership with Slovenian Polona Hercog, beat Australian pair Isabella Holland and Sally Peers 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the girls’ event, while Bernard Tomic and Matt Reid lost a nail-biter to Chinese Taipei duo Cheng-Peng Hsieh and Tsung-Hua Yang, 6-4, 2-6, 12-10.

In the boys’ doubles, unseeded Hsieh and Yang were out of the blocks quicker then third seeds Tomic and Reid, who suffered a cold start on a chilly day in SW19. Hsieh and Yang served solidly, winning 86% of first service points en route to taking the set 6-4. The second set was a complete reversal of fortune for the Aussies who broke twice to take the set 6-2.

In the decider, Hsieh and Yang had to fight back from 4-2 down. From 4-4, the Chinese Taipei team and the Australian pair were inseparable, with break points coming and going and neither team capable of finishing the job.

At 10-10, after 70 minutes of play in the third set alone, Hsieh and Yang conjured up three break points but could not seize the crucial point as Tomic recovered to deuce. But on the fourth break point, a Tomic forehand sailed wide.

That left Hsieh to serve for victory and with two championship points, he stuck his second serve into Tomic’s backhand and the Aussie was unable to return.

In the girls’ doubles final, unseeded Holland and Peers had come through the bottom half of the draw, beating second seeds Ana Bogdan and Ksenia Lykina on the way. But sixth seeds Hercog and Moore had beaten number one seeds Elena Bogdan and Bojana Jovanovski en route to the final.

The first set was decided by the finest of margins, with the breakthrough falling to Hercog and Moore who put more pressure on the service games of Holland and Peer, eventually breaking to take the set 6-3.

In true Aussie style, Holland and Moore responded by breaking twice in the second set to level the match at one-set all. But they then promptly let the match slip from their grasp as they lost serve early in the third set. At 5-2, a fine Moore return clinched the match and the title.
