| Thursday, 26 June 2008 Written by Byron Vale Dinara Safina did not watch older brother Marat Safin's victory over Novak Djokovic and he was not courtside to see her beat Su-Wei Hsieh.
Had Marat been there, he would have seen his ninth seeded sibling make short of work of the 116th-ranked player in the world 6-3, 6-2 in just over an hour on Court No.2.
The French Open finalist broke Hsieh late in the first set and early in the second to effectively seal the match.
"I didn't know how she played so instead of focusing on myself, I was focusing on her," Safina said. "I was serving pretty good today. At 4-3, I started to be more aggressive. I started to go more for my shots."
Hsieh only forced Safina to defend one break point in the entire match and the Taiwanese compounded her own misery by landing just 37 per cent of her first serves. Her second serve, at about the 80 mile an hour mark, were like Christmas presents for Safina.
With this victory Safina equalled her best performance at Wimbledon. She reached the third round in 2005 and 2006. She will face 24th seed Sahar Peer in the next round.
"I still have to work to improve my game," Safina said. "I think I can play on grass. In moving I have to be much stronger. I have to be much more aggressive on serves."
