Serena Williams is optimistic about her chances of capturing a third Wimbledon title and says her third round win over Milagros Sequera of Venezuela for the loss of only one game was "absolutely, definitely" her best performance of these Championships. It reminded her of what she called "the glory years" when she won Wimbledon twice in succession. "Those were the days, those were the glory days," she smiled. "I'm playing really well, I'm feeling really good. I'm feeling really positive. I feel like I'm going to get there." As for the problems she has been having with a slight hamstring strain, Serena was also optimistic. "It's a lot better, which I'm really excited about. It's the first time it has felt this good. So it's all coming together." Having awarded herself marks of two out of 10 for her first round win over Lourdes Dominguez Lino and six out of 10 for the victory over Alicia Molik, Serena judged her performance against Sequera "about a six or seven", adding: "I'm peaking at the right time, playing the big points well. I couldn't be more ready to compete in any event." Williams is also confident of regaining the No. 1 ranking as well as another Wimbledon title, she reckons. "I expect to be the best in the world. When I am playing well, I am the best." Not content with talking up her own chances after reaching the last 16, Williams indulged in a spot of forecasting on behalf of her sister Venus. She thinks that if both Venus and Maria Sharapova win their third round matches tomorrow, her older sister is in sufficiently dangerous form to win that fourth round confrontation. "Venus has the game to beat Maria, especially on grass," she said. "Venus has a great serve. I mean, she runs like the wind. She's so tall. She's playing well. That said, she has to go out there and do it. And she can do it." Written by Ronald Atkin
